Workshop Information

Delegates will have the opportunity to attend two of four workshops in the afternoon. Workshop details are below. Please indicate on the booking form which workshops you would like to attend. These will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

Workshop A

Animate Learning: Using Technology, Family Learning and Parental Engagement to improve outcomes for Children

Andy Giles, National Project Manager: Digital Inclusion, Campaign for Learning

This workshop will give participants a fast paced introduction to using animation and new technologies to support family learning programs in their settings. Groups of participants will have the chance to experience what each family takes part in on our programs by making their very own animated film.

Creation of each animated film involves a number of activities, opportunities and learning points that ensure that every family learns something about how they learn, how they can support each other and develop the skills and confidence to work together as a family in the future on a range of projects.

Workshop B

Outside Looking In: A Window into the Classroom

Kirsty Tonks, Director of e-Learning, Collegiate Academy Trust

At Shireland Collegiate Academy we absolutely see the need and benefit of using technology to enhance our links with families and harness its pervasive nature to reach into homes in ways that we could not have done previously. Our engagement with families through using our Learning Platform and other digital programmes to not only aid communication and better inform, but also to help families support their child’s learning has enabled us to build upon and extend valuable learning opportunities beyond the classroom.

In this session I will guide you through the many ways that we maximise our use of technology with families through their child’s learning journey with us at Shireland.

Workshop C

Approaches to evaluating the impact of parental engagement: a practical guide

Sue Collins, Development Consultant

Evaluation should be proportional to what you are doing and enable you to confirm what works, identify areas for further development and potentially unexpected results, all of which helps you to prioritise where you place your resources in the future in your School Development Planning and evidence to others the reasons for these decisions.

The key to evaluation is the curiosity to ask the questions but also to collate and interpret the answers. This will be an interactive sessions to support you to identify the right evaluation for your work with parents now and in the future.

Workshop D

Using the Leading Parent Partnership Award framework: achieving excellence in parental engagement

Rachel Adams, Parent Engagement Advisor, Worcestershire County Council

A look at the impact benefit of LPPA across 36 schools in Worcestershire, with examples of good practice and practical tips on how to set up parent forums, parent voice groups and family activities.
